Funds Raised In Memory Of Mary Hutchinson

img_2649

We recently received a donation of £371, raised in memory of Mary Hutchinson.

Mary was diagnosed back in 1984 and received treatment under Professor Proctor and Dr O’Brien. Mary was a long standing supporter of our charity and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Our thoughts are with Mary’s family and friends.

Bright Red Agree To Fund New CNS Post At Sunderland Hospital

We have recently awarded Sunderland Royal Hospital £55,000 of funding to help employ an additional Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The additional CNS will enable the current team to offer a far superior service to haematology patients.

It would mean an increased amount of patients could meet with a CNS prior to starting chemotherapy. There would be a more streamlined pathway for patients attending the day unit who are unexpectedly unwell. With a planned rota between three Clinical Nurse Specialists available to review these patients on a daily basis, allowing for more rapid treatment and/or discharge home.

We are delighted to be in a position to fund another nursing post. As usual, we give thanks to our supporters for making this possible.

3rd Laurence Avis Cup Raises £4,756

The third annual Laurence Avis Cup took place on the 3 September. Over 40 golfers joined organisers Jeff, Glynis, Carol and Dave, to raise funds for Bright Red in memory of Glynis’ husband Laurence.

Through entry fees, auctions and raffles they raised an amazing £4,756, bringing the total raised in Laurence’s memory to date to almost £13,000.

As usual we were really impressed with how well organised everything was, and were grateful to hear such wonderful feedback from the participants.

It means a lot to us to be invited back every year to talk about our projects and what we want to achieve next. It’s thanks to people like Jeff, Glynis and Carol that we’re able to continue to make such a difference.
